Rotigus (Expanding Foam Great Unclean One)

My version of Rotigus, one of the new plastic Great Unclean Ones, with a twist... his body is made from expanding foam! Hope you like him, he took a fair old amount of effort to get right, I have documented the process in the video below so you can follow along and if you want have a go yourself.

All you will need are the plastic Rotigus components from the set, expanding foam from any reasonable DIY store, some modelling putty or clay, liquid green stuff and earth effect paints are strictly optional.

Building Three Great Unclean Ones

Ever wondered about making a couple more Great Unclean Ones with all those useful little extra bits you've got lying around after building the plastic one? Let's see if we can figure out a cheap way of making the most out of those pieces! Join me in my quest to eliminate unpainted miniatures over on YouTube.

Wargame Terrain

Bit of a ramble about terrain here and whilst I do so let's take a look at some old school miniatures too, treat yourself!

Collecting Warhammer Miniatures

I often get asked how I keep motivated to paint so often. It can be a real struggle, but I have lots of driving factors which really help! Not least of which, I love the models, I love the stories and I love the feeling of getting these little chaps painted and photographed.

Join the discussion below and let me know what your motivations and miniature vices are!

Easy and Effective: Batch Painting

Some thoughts on batch painting, why it's useful, how to do it and general information. You may find it a handy technique, especially if you collect those pesky horde armies such as Orcs and Goblins or Skaven. Hey they won't paint themselves, what are you waiting for?

Making Bad: The Otherworld Giant

The mighty Otherworld Giant strides into the battle. Standing a huge 7 inches tall he will make mincemeat of his foes in short order.

Overall a nice model, I had some trouble with fixing him together and needed to do some sculpting to get the arms and legs to fit properly. Nothing that a bit of superglue and milliput can't handle though. I often find the bigger the model the more extra stuff you have to do as it's so hard to get pieces to fit together at scale.

Making Bad: Mucklegeet the Giant

My Mucklegeet the Giant from Heresy Miniatures. This glorious hunk of resin stands as tall as the Forgeworld Giant but massively more bulky. He puts most of the Giant collection to shame actually in sheer size!

Make Warhammer Quest Great Again

The mighty dungeon crawl returns with "Make Warhammer Quest Great Again" a video series where I attempt to mix the boxed sets of the original Warhammer Quest and Silver Tower into one homologous mess of fun old school plastic miniatures, some of the new ones that are suitably gribbly and a fully modular dungeon tile set.

I am unsure as to whether I will go full 3D with the dungeon tiles, or if I will go walls down 2.5D style, which also looks rather nice. Something to mull over whilst I consider how to approach this epic of a project.

Chaos Army Showcase

The Chaos army so far, it is looking rather spiffing even if I do say so myself. Of particular note are the Mona Lisa banner which is finally finished, the Chaos Knights and their mutated leader and my Beastmaster and hound who I really enjoyed painting.

What's your favourite model and why? Let me know in the comments below and get a free hat (free hats not included in promotion).

Tuesday, 27 March 2018

The most mighty of my miniatures, the indestructible Barrel! Fear it for it cannot be damaged despite its obvious lack of any structural integrity...

Monday, 26 March 2018

The brutal Minotaur joins his herd. As always a lovely miniature painted to a tabletop standard. What more could you ask for?

Sunday, 25 March 2018

A kooky looking model gecko or something along those lines. I found him in a thrift store for a few bucks and thought he might make a fun Basilisk type model. He is currently sitting on my paint table awaiting a coat of paint... he should be so lucky!

Great Unclean One

A mouldy, slightly stained and altogether unclean... one! But if you ask anyone else it's just a Great Unclean One.

Thursday, 22 March 2018

Chaos Warriors

Some more nefarious Chaos Warriors, this time lead by a Speciality Set Chaos Sorcerer in a lovely green cloak. Not bad miniatures these, really old school flavour.

Chaos Warriors

Another huge regiment of Chaos Warriors, hopefully I will be able to field an army of 100 of the guys soon! Bit of a big undertaking but you can't fault someone who likes a challenge can you? I hope you are all keeping up with your painting and modelling, be sure to share what you are up to below in the comments.

Chaos Warriors

Some more Chaos Warriors, I expect you are probably getting bored to death of them now aren't you?

How to make a unit pop

A pretty easy concept here, making a unit 'pop'. This is how I create my patented double take effect in my units. Be careful to use this powerful technique with care!

"Wait wahhhh???"

Chaos Dwarf Juggernaut

When building a Chaos Army you have to keep in mind "what would I do if I had to conduct a siege of a mighty fortress?". Well look no further! The patented Chaos Dwarf Juggernaut will solve your problem! Complete with steamroller for squishing those annoying defending troops, a large tower for scaling those hard to reach places and a stylish skull on the front; this is the vehicle for YOU!

"Succeed in your siege or your money back!"

Engrim Van Horstman

Most people seem to think that Engrim Van Horstman rides a twin headed Chaos Dragon named Baudros... WRONG! He clearly rides a long legged elephant with googly eyes!

Thursday, 15 March 2018

Chaos Dwarf Arsecannon

Alright! Arsecannon complete! Now what? I suppose I better make a start on the Hellcannon, Bazooka team, Mortar, Halfling Hotpot and Swivel Gun then... A Chaos Lord's work is never done is it? Then I will be needing to start the Chaos Dwarf Warriors regiment, another 20 strong unit to add to the every growing army.

Wednesday, 14 March 2018

Chaos Warriors

What mighty Chaos Army is complete without a multitude of Chaos Warriors? I plan to have 100 warriors in the army by the time it is finished, which will look absolutely epic when on display! Although not all pre-slotta Chaos Warriors they will be painted as such, I have some armoured Orcs and some demons and odd creatures to include in the units to make them look interesting. Stay tuned for more!

Tuesday, 13 March 2018

A couple more Minotaurs for the army, nice models, lets get em painted! Please note the lightly painted miniature was not painted by me, I bought it like that and it badly needs repainting!

Monday, 12 March 2018

Feculent Gnarlmaw/Gnarlent Feculmaw?

I have no idea where Games Workshop get their ideas but I like em! Shame about the rather strange choice of names though, Orukks? Seriously? The less said about the Feculent Gnarlmaw the better I think...

Chaos Dwarf Beastmaster

A Chaos Dwarf Beastmaster and his Brass Lion. I found the lion miniature in a thrift store a few weeks ago and just had to have him. I figured he was a good size and would make an excellent addition to the army as some kind of magical construct or golem; willed to life by the nefarious dark magiks of the Chaos Dwarf sorcerers and magicians.

Saturday, 10 March 2018

Chaos Chariot

When in the charge nothing says "you're dead" quite like a Chaos Chariot and when accompanied by a unit of Chaos Knights? Forgeddaboudit!

Friday, 9 March 2018

What Chaos Army is complete without a significant number of slaves and hangers on? This army is no exception to the rule! Here we have a regiment of Halflings and Goblins getting ready to be whipped into battle by some rather unsympathetic beast masters and handlers.

Thursday, 8 March 2018

Chaos Dwarf Arsecannon

One of the most iconic Chaos Dwarf contraptions is of course the mysterious Arsecannon. Conceived in a fit of madness by Games Workshop back in the olden days it really has become an important piece of any wannabe Chaos Dwarf Lord and indeed any aspiring Chaos Lord. I will be painting mine in a brass or iron effect to make it look like a living breathing lump of metal, just what I imagine a Chaos Dwarf metal smith could create with a bit of evil magic!

Wednesday, 7 March 2018

A mixed set of Ral Partha and Citadel Centaurs and a few other odds and sods that I had lying around. Really I just wanted a big unit of beastly looking monsters and this is it!

Tuesday, 6 March 2018

What could be better than having Brian Blessed on your side in a battle? Brian Blessed with wings of course! The classic looking Birdmen are a fab little collection of guys with bolas, shields and swords and can make mincemeat of those pesky cannon and bolt thrower crews.

Monday, 5 March 2018

Chaos Warriors

Another unit of Chaos Warriors. This time it's a mix of Speciality Set and Chaos Knights. These guys are probably one of the nicest collections of miniatures, they have a wide selection of looks, poses, armour and weaponry and really make the army look interesting and different when all ranked up.

Sunday, 4 March 2018

Nightmare Dragon

The creepy looking Nightmare Dragon flies into the fray, well he would if he had a tail. I found this guy kicking about on eBay for a ridiculous price and just had to have him. After gluing him to the base I will be sculpting him a nice new tail, fingers crossed I can do him justice as he is a lovely model.

Saturday, 3 March 2018

Chaos Thugs

Chaos Thugs, Chaos Thugs, Chaos Thugs. Where do I start with these fellas? They are some of the most characterful miniatures in the army for sure, owning a variety of weaponry and armour. Complete with armoured warriors, deformed humans, hot pants, chain mail and a whole lot more!

"Yep sexy." - Alan Partridge

Chaos Ogre

The Battlemasters Ogre has to be one of the most classic Ogre designs ever. Everything from the fat paunch of his belly and gut plate to his stance and weaponry make this miniature a real gem.

I first owned one of these chaps when I got a copy of Battlemasters for my birthday. It was this miniature, the Chaos Warriors and the Goblin Wolfriders that got me into the hobby all those years ago. So a big thank you to Battlemasters for starting something I am now so passionate about!

Building a Realms of Chaos Army Series 2 (BaRoCA2)

Finally got around to sorting out my Chaos army... I really didn't think I had accrued that much stuff, but apparently I have. So this series is dedicated to me actually trying to paint some of it! Wish me luck... I'm gonna need it!

Wednesday, 14 February 2018

It's back... BaRoCA Series 2

Building a Realms of Chaos Army Series 2 is coming to a screen near you! Basically I never finished what I set out to do with my first series and figured I really had to revisit it. In this series I will be finishing off many of the units I started in the original and creating some fab conversions to complement the army too.

So sit back and watch this quick retrospective of the first series and look forward to the next!

Happy New Year!

Welcome back all, I hope you all had a happy and safe New Years and you are ready to rock 2018 like it's 1998 (or some other good year that you remember fondly)! Good luck in your endeavours, never give up on what you want and above all else maintain a sense of humour.
